Mercury

The Northeast Harbor Fleet owns and maintains 10 keeled Mercuries which are used for the sailing school, for evening races and for recreational use by NEHF members. Feel free to take one out for an afternoon sail after checking with the launch driver on duty. Mainsails may be reefed to make boats less tippy in strong winds.

The Cape Code Mercury was designed by the famous nautical designers, Sparkman and Stevens in 1940 and the original boats were made of wood. The NEHF Mercurys are keelboats made of fiberglass, are 15' long, 5'5" wide, weigh 470 lbs and have a 119 square foot sail area. The seats create air tanks to keep the boat afloat should the cockpit become swamped. The Mercury meets the need for novice and well seasoned sailors. With it's large cockpit it has space for five but can easily be sailed with two.
